Inclusive and Accessible Borrowing Sessions

We’re excited to have received funding through Toy Libraries Australia and the Department of Social Services to help us make the toy library more accessible to children and families with a disability or developmental delay.

As part of the project, we are introducing a new borrowing session at Pascoe Vale. Our Inclusive and Accessible borrowing sessions will run on Wednesdays, from 1:30pm-3:30pm, starting on 23 July.

These will be low-sensory sessions. We’ll keep the lights off, and arrange the toys in the hall a little differently so that while you’ll still be able to browse and choose from our full range of toys, we’ll aim to keep the noisier items out of reach of little hands.

Our Coordinator will also be available to help you with toy selection if required.

We want to make these additional sessions as accessible as possible for families who need them, and use the learnings from this project to make the overall toy library borrowing experience more inclusive.

We’ll be listening and learning along the way, so we want to hear your suggestions. We invite all members to complete our Inclusive and Accessible Borrowing Sessions survey to help us understand what changes will be most effective.

You can also forward the survey on to friends who might be interested in joining the library.

Along with gathering feedback from members, we will also work with local allied health professionals to tailor sessions that will help families. We know many of our members already work in relevant fields, so if you’d like to contribute your expertise to this project, or have suggestions for people to contact, or things to consider please get in touch at info@merri-bektoylibrary.org.au

Thank you for your ongoing support of the toy library, and for any feedback and suggestions you contribute to this project.
